Project description:

The Holocaust Museum of Porto (MHP), established in 2021 by the Jewish Community of Porto (CIP/CJP) in collaboration with B’nai B’rith International and Holocaust museums globally, aims to preserve and promote the memory of the Holocaust. The museum focuses on educating the general public, especially younger generations, through exhibitions, research support, and professional training for educators. It is an essential part of the Never Forget government initiative, which seeks to honor Holocaust memory in Portugal.

The museum also plays a key role in combating antisemitism, aligning with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, and serves as a space to share historical documents and objects left by refugees at the Porto Synagogue during World War II. Managed by members of the Jewish Community of Porto, many of whom have personal connections to Holocaust victims, the museum is an integral component of a broader strategy that includes the Jewish Museum of Porto, educational programs, school visits, and charitable initiatives in partnership with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Porto.

The FAIR Foundation will support the Holocaust Museum of Porto through social investment focused on enhancing educational programs, preserving historical documents, and expanding community engagement. This includes funding for educator training, research initiatives, and public exhibitions aimed at combating antisemitism and promoting tolerance. The foundation’s contribution will help strengthen the museum’s mission to educate future generations and preserve the memory of the Holocaust.
