During the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020, the Ticino regional health system faced unprecedented demands. The Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC) — the cantonal hospital system serving the region — urgently needed to expand its workforce to respond to the crisis and care for the growing number of patients.

Andrey and Irina Rappoport responded to this emergency with a substantial financial contribution of 300,000 Swiss francs, designated specifically to support the hiring of additional medical and support personnel. This emergency assistance helped EOC strengthen its capacity at a critical moment, providing essential reinforcement to healthcare workers facing extraordinary demands.

The contribution reflected the conviction of the Foundation’s founders that in moments of crisis, communities must come together, and that supporting frontline healthcare workers is a responsibility we all share.
